Sukkot and Simchat Torah Cookies

The September 2010 Daring Bakers’ challenge was hosted by Mandy of “What the Fruitcake?!” Mandy challenged everyone to make Decorated Sugar Cookies based on recipes from Peggy Porschen and The Joy of Baking.

The theme for this month’s challenge is September. This September, for me, has been all about the Jewish High Holidays. I did not have cookie cutters for etrogim, lulavim, or Simchat Torah flags, so I cut freehand.

Petit Fours and the Perfect Pound Cake

Petit fours can be such a pain to make! So I was very intrigued by a Martha Stewart recipe that called for cutting out circles of pound cake and pouring over a mock fondant.
